PWA or native app? Choosing the right mobile app for your business

Installable web apps have quietly become powerful. Here is when a PWA is enough, and when you really need an app in the Play Store and App Store.

"We need an app" can mean very different things. Before you budget for two app-store apps, it is worth knowing what a Progressive Web App (PWA) can do today.

What a PWA gives you

  • Installs on Android, iPhone and desktop from your website — no store approval.
  • Push notifications, offline screens and a full-screen, app-like experience.
  • One codebase, so updates reach every user instantly.
  • Lower cost to build and maintain.

For staff tools — sales follow-ups, field visits, attendance, daily task lists — a PWA is usually the smartest choice. Our own BuildOne and TourFlow products run this way.

When a native app is worth it

  • You need deep device features such as Bluetooth printers, background location or heavy camera processing.
  • Being discovered in the Play Store or App Store matters for your customers.
  • You expect very large numbers of consumer users who search stores for apps.

The practical path

Many businesses start with a PWA, prove the idea with real users, then add store apps once the features are settled. We build both — Android and iOS apps from one shared codebase, and installable web apps — so the choice is about your users, not our tools.
